Behind Coffi Ddraig
Our Story ❤️☕
Our journey into food and hospitality has been a long one, filled with plenty of ups and downs, but most importantly, a genuine love for what we do.
I left school knowing that I wanted to work in the food industry. I started out as a waitress before joining Asda in Llanelli, where I worked for around 15 years. During my time there, I worked across the pizza, deli, fruit and veg counters and eventually progressed into supervisory and management roles. I became a manager at the Gorseinon store, overseeing the fruit and veg department and various counters. It was a huge part of my working life and gave me a wealth of experience in food, customers and running a busy operation.
After leaving Asda, I spent some time working for Jenkins Bakeries in Llanelli, where I ran the husband-and-wife bakery operation. I also had a short spell working for Ramsdens Pawn Brokers, although I quickly realised that wasn't really for me!
Then I met Phil — my now husband — and that's where our journey together really began.
Phil had always wanted to work in food. After leaving school, he went to Neath College to study catering and also completed a butchery course. He even travelled to London to the Strand for work experience before returning home, as he was missing Wales. He then worked as a chef and care assistant in nursing homes, gaining experience in both cooking and caring for people.
When we got together, we decided to combine our experience and passion for food and start something of our own.
With financial help from Phil's mum, we took the plunge and started our own burger van. We ran the business for several years and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, due to my health at the time, we eventually had to step away from it.
That wasn't the end of our food journey, though.
We then took on a company called Y Gegin Fach, providing community meals and Meals on Wheels. This was something we thoroughly enjoyed. Being able to provide good, homemade food to people in our local community was incredibly rewarding.
Sadly, like so many small businesses, COVID changed everything, and we eventually had to bring that chapter to an end.
We then decided to open a small café in the same premises. Bob & Nancy's was born.
Unfortunately, being in a small village with very little passing traffic made it difficult to sustain the café, and we eventually had to close the doors. It was disappointing, but once again, we weren't ready to give up on food.
We started making homemade Scotch eggs and homemade pies, taking our products out to local markets, festivals and events wherever we could.
And that's where we are today.
We're still passionate about food, still love meeting people and still love finding new places and events where we can share what we make.
From markets and festivals to private events, community gatherings and everything in between, we're always looking for the next opportunity and the next adventure.
We've had plenty of twists and turns along the way, but every experience has taught us something and helped shape the business we have today.
We're a husband-and-wife team who simply love food, love people and love what we do. ❤️
And after everything we've been through, we're excited to see where the journey takes us next. 🚐☕🥧
